What are your hours of operation?

We are open 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. seven days a week, with the exception of major holidays and unforeseen catastrophes.

I’ve never noticed your store before. When did you open?

Market Fresh Books has been in Evanston since October 2009.

How do you stay in business selling books for so cheap?

Our model is based on selling lots of great books at affordable prices. We rely on our awesome customers. If you have a positive experience at our store, it really helps us out if you leave a review on our Yelp or Google Review page.

Can you tell me if you have a specific book in stock?

We do not have a catalogue of our inventory, but our friendly and knowledgeable staff is always happy to help point you in the right direction. Because we do not catalogue our media inventory, we are not able to contact customers if we receive a specific title in stock.

You don’t have a phone? Why?

We are a small business, and believe that customer service is best when done face-to-face. Our staff is dedicated to making sure you enjoy your experience here, and not wondering why the employees are on the phone all the time.

What is your return policy?

Due to the nature of selling used merchandise, all sales are final.

What about this DVD or CD? If it’s scratched and doesn’t work, can I return it?

DVDs and CDs are non-returnable. We always advise inspecting discs before buying.

I bought a T-shirt which doesn’t fit. Can I exchange it for a different size?

Unworn T-shirts with tags intact may be exchanged for different sizes within seven days of purchase. You must have your receipt.

Do you have store parking?

There is City of Evanston street parking available near the store, but we do not have designated store parking.

Will you call or email my offer?

We do not have a store phone, and we do not email offers. You must physically come to the store to claim an offer or decline and collect your items.

Do you have a restroom?

We do not have a public restroom. The closest public restroom is at the Evanston Public Library, across the street from our store.

Do you buy books by the pound?

We do not buy based on weight, we only sell them by the pound.

Do I need an appointment to sell books?

You may bring in items to be sold any time between 10 am and 4 pm.

How do you determine the price you offer on books and other merchandise?

Our experienced pricers determine offers based on demand for the title, condition of the item, and inventory levels. Offers are not made based on quantity or weight.

How long does it take to price an offer?

If one of our pricers is available, we can usually have an offer in about 15-30 minutes. This can vary depending on how busy the store is and the quantity of items. While waiting, feel free to browse around the store, and our staff will let you know when the offer is ready.

Can I take back the books you don’t want?

We make offers on the bulk of the dropoff; we do not price items individually. Our experienced pricers use market research and years of experience to construct offers based on the demand, condition, and availability of your items.

What do you do with books you do not use?

It is a sad reality, but there comes a time when certain books simply will not be read. Rather than let our shelves overflow with, say, multiple copies of Consumer’s Digest 1981, we pay a pickup service to recycle unusable books responsibly. It would be easier and less expensive for us to simply dump unusable books into the trash. It is more ethical to ensure that items are properly recycled and steered clear of landfills.

Can I decline your offer?

Once an offer is paid out, the transaction is final. However, until you are paid out, your items are still yours. If you choose not to accept our offer, you may take your items back. Please note that if an offer is not claimed or declined by the end of the day, the items are considered “abandoned.”

My library or PTA would like to sell books we receive from families as donations, will you accept those?

Of course! Many local PTAs already use our services, selling books to us for store credit and replenishing their stock with what they ideally want in their school libraries. It is a great way to build your quality school library for free!

Do you purchase rare books?

We are happy to evaluate rare books; however, we are typically more in the market for the type of book you would see on the shelves of chain book stores. We do have a section of books published prior to 1950, and a section of “decorative” sets.

I need to rent some decorative books for my set. Can I get those from you?

If you are working on a professional project and are in need of decorative books, we’ll be able help. Please email info@www.literategifts.com with inquiries.

Can you help me bring my books in?

We are not able to assist with bringing books in to our store.

Will you come to my house to look at my books?

We do not typically make house calls. However, we can make exceptions in extreme circumstances. Please email info@www.literategifts.com for inquiries.

Do you accept donations?

We always accept donations.

Can you put items on hold for me?

In general, we do not put items on hold. However, we can make exceptions in some cases.

What’s the story with the funky T-shirts?

We want to celebrate great artists, thinkers, writers, and local businesses! A recent addition to our inventory, these boutique shirts are original designs for showing off your taste and Chicago pride.

Can I order items on your website?

You can order new shirts, mugs, phone cases, and other items through our website. We do not currently sell books online, but stay tuned!

Do you have chairs or places to sit?

We do not have chairs or lounge areas—we prefer to fill the store with great books and other items.

It looks like fun to work here. Are you hiring?

Maybe! Please send a resume to info@www.literategifts.com, and we will email an application.

Can I bring my dog, ice cream, coffee or stroller into the store?

Of course you can! Just don’t forget to take them with you when you leave 🙂
